What I Believe

It’s important to me to know the theological underpinnings of any product I bring to my church, especially if it’s for use with children.  In case you’re curious, below are a few of the foundations of my faith that influence my work (note this is not a comprehensive list and is guaranteed to evolve).

Love wins.

In the beginning, all of creation was made good.  All humans have always, are, and always will be connected to God’s love.  We may make bad choices but our connection to that goodness and love never breaks.

Operating from that secure foundation, we are each invited to know God and to live a life of faith.  This life of faith recognizes that we have a responsibility to love God and care for one another.

Jesus was the son of God who lived on this Earth for a time, fully human and fully divine. Jesus is one part of the Trinity, which provides us different understandings of the divine and different access points to connect with the divine. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are a profound, beautiful mystery.

God is bigger than we can understand.  Among many things, this means that God is not a “he”.  It means that God can be present to all people in their particular contexts.  It also means that any man-made religion does not have a monopoly on divine truth.

The Bible is a holy text that helps us to know and connect with God.  What is written in the Bible does not have to be literally true to contain God’s truth.

Love wins.
